A month of returning, regrowing, and remembering.

The month of July calls us into the thick of the season. The garden is wild, buzzing, blooming — and so are we. Mid-year is a sacred in-between: the solstice has passed, but the harvest is still ahead. It’s a time to reflect on what’s taken root… and what wants to rise.

This month at The Green Desk, we’re exploring the theme of Rebirth & Roots — through words, images, scraps, and soil.

Whether you journal in a lined notebook, a junk journal, a camera roll, or a quiet corner of your voice memos — here are prompts to help you ground, grow, and reimagine.

✍️ For Written Journaling

Long-hand, free-writes, or morning pages in your favorite notebook.

  1. 🌱 “What part of me is coming back to life?”

  2. Write about a moment this year when you felt reborn. What changed?

  3. 📚 What books or poems have rooted something new in you recently?

  4. 🌕 Write a letter to your past self from this current season — what truth would you plant in their garden?

  5. 🪞 What does ‘returning to your roots’ actually mean for you: culturally, emotionally, spiritually?

🧵 For Scrap or Junk Journaling

Collage, texture, found objects, pressed flowers, washi tape, poetry fragments.

  1. 🌼 Make a collage with dried leaves, petals, or herb wrappers that represent your “root system.” Annotate it with thoughts or quotes about where you come from or what sustains you.

  2. 📜 Tear out a page from an old book and write a short poem or affirmation in the margins about rebirth. Tape it into your journal with something from your current garden.

  3. ✂️ Clip a photo or poem line that reminds you of a self you’ve shed and add a new one beside it.

  4. 📅 Use old receipts, garden tags, or packaging as background pieces. What do these scraps say about what you’re nurturing this season?

🎥 For Photography or Video Journaling

For visual storytellers, TikTok, Reels, or personal archives.

  1. 📸 Take daily or weekly snapshots of what’s growing — in your garden, your body, your routines. Compile into a “July roots” montage.

  2. 📽️ Record a voiceover about a moment of personal rebirth while showing your garden or bookshelf in motion.

  3. 🌻 Film a single object (a plant, a journal, a cup of tea) each day for a week. What changes? What doesn’t?

  4. 🌙 Capture a night or dusk ritual — watering plants, pulling cards, reading outside — and overlay a favorite quote or affirmation.

🌿 Final Prompt

Ritual Prompt: On the next full moon, sit with your feet in soil or grass. Ask yourself:

What do I need to reclaim in order to root deeper?

Write it down. Bury the page.

Let the earth hold it with you.
